Beginnings
- 1983
Established
in May 1983, and incorporated
on September 2, 1989, the
Negril Chamber of Commerce
emerged out of a concept
of respect for nature, neighbourliness,
community harmony, creation
and consolidation of a social
order held together by an
interlocking network of
mutual interests and obligations
which joined peoples of
all ranks and interests.
Since
then, the handful of
founding members have increased
in membership to a high
of 102 and currently stands
at 64, and each of the associations
that are registered members
has an equal voice in the
decisions of the Chamber.
These are:
Negril
Craft Vendors Association
(Founding Member)
Rutland Point Craft
Vendors Association
Jamaica Hotel and
Tourism Association
Negril Environmental
Protection Trust
Negril Coral Reef
Preservation Society
|
Schools
and local churches have
been offered free membership.
Representatives of various
agencies such as the Jamaica
Tourist Board, TPDCo,
the Police, Negril Green

Office
Established June 1989
Along
with the establishment
of an office, Mrs.
Jean Jackson came to the
Negril Chamber of Commerce
in 1989 as manager. She
has had to not only deal
with boisterous council
members and demanding
presidents, but has worked
on so many valuable projects
for the community. She
is regarded today as the
"Rock" that
has helped us to build
a better Negril.
